What I Use for Art
Here's a collection of things I use to make my art! I tend to rotate between brushes depending on the rendering style I'm feeling that day lol I've also included some small things like artistic choices that I do while drawing.
I've also included links on where to access them.
My little guy has been in use for over five years now and is going strong (despite my violence).
Touch screen and compatible with certain styluses.
I have to back up my files though through an external harddrive since I didn't fully think about memory. Whoops.
A reliable little guy with a triangular grip that works well for my hand grip. It takes AAAA battery but remains charged for several months, even when not in use!
The coating is coming off though... and I had several scares where I thought I lost it lol.
If you do decide to get this, make sure to check the compatibility on Wacom's official website. I got a physical copy of Clip Studio Paint EX in 2016 and have been using it ever since. I specifically chose the EX version as it offered more in terms of making animation and comics.
Personally, I recommend saving up and buying your own perpetual license. I hate subscription services being applied to softwares like this and, although they price hiked the perpetual license now to triple digits, I believe you should own your media.
I switched my sketch brush for this little guy to help ease off the perfectionism.
It also makes for a pretty good painting (rendering) brush if you put it on a lower opacity (I have mine on 65%).
A good ol' line art brush with just the smallest bit of texture.
A fun little pen to get that inky feel. I've only used this in monochrome drawings, as I feel like that's where it shines best.
This pen is especially fun for small details like hair strands or scarring.
I love using this guy for blending body blushes! I feel like it adds a nice bit of texture to the skin that feels softly human.
Unfortunately, at the time I'm coding this (12/02), the set this brush is a part of has been deleted off of the CSP store.
Usually used together with the blending brush when I want to emphasize body blushes, though I also use it for line art sometimes!
It also works as a good bruise/scratch blemishes brush as well!
With the "sharper" pencil, sometimes I like to turn on "the randomize (color) per stroke" to give the line art some life.
I specifically use the "汚れノイズなし文字ペン" brush from this set, though sometimes I play with a few others in it.
The main thing is I like to play with this brush sometimes. Sometimes I use it for line art (though, I'm not set on making this my main one as how it reacts to pen sensitivity isn't my personal favorite for it). I mostly use this as a "slightly-cleaner sketch" brush.
The color palette I use to pick skin tones from. I usually start off coloring the skin first and then I pick colors around it.
The jittery, handsdrawn-esque borders I use in my comics!
I've been hunting a good retro filter set up for a while and found this one! It's something I've been experimenting with.
With this filter specifically, it washes out/dulls color. To combat this, I edit the colors with +5 saturation and -10 luminosity.
A good set of crunchy, messy and unconventional half tones. I usually use them as a final overlay layer but they're fun to use as actual half tones.
They're nice and clean. The main reason why I use vector layers for line art is the ease of cleaning (vector eraser) and adjusting the layer.
I always have to add body blushes. The reason? I think it's cute. I mainly add blushes to the cheeks, nose, ears and finger tips. I make sure to blend the blushes and keep the opacity low so it don't stick out too much (usually 10-15% opacity), though this would vary depending on the expression.
I've added the little cartoon-y scratchy lines 'cause, similarly, it's cute. The real push for it was because I saw someone online complaining about them in general and I added it in out of spite.
